If you follow our work at all it should come as no surprise that we love creating custom artwork for our clients. Often we start creating something fun for our couples as soon as we begin thinking about the save the date or a playful pattern for the website website but once we have the initial artwork the options are limitless. At last weekend’s wedding at Rosewood Mayakoba in Riviera Maya, we commissioned Cait Courneya to create a custom Otomi print that was a bit more playful and romantic than traditional Mexican Otomi while still giving a nod to the region. Below are just a few ways we’ve used her custom artwork throughout the design of the wedding weekend to not only create a cohesive brand but also to show personality through elements such as stationery, gifting and fun touches.
Original watercolor from Cait:
We used Cait’s watercolor for details such as lining the envelopes for the save the dates and the background for the website to the inside cover of the itinerary and the folder for the invitations. Also, a couple of the critters even made an appearance on the postage stamp.
For welcome gifts, we pulled two of the critters to create an embroidered appliqué for the custom welcome bags.
Inside the welcome bags, we had custom maracas painted with the sweet critters, created an itinerary, map and personalized stationery for the couple to write custom thank notes on.
For the couple’s sunset sail, we created custom drink stirrers from the Otomi critters Cait drew for us. We also created single color cocktail napkins to use throughout the weekend giving a nod to the design without being overly matching.
For the Welcome Party we brought moments from the Otomi pattern into ancillary signage such as this sweet sign for the Mezcal Tasting, but we oriented the pattern differently as to not be overly obvious. Then for the menus on this evening we choose to avoid the exact design but instead created a complimentary design using the same fonts for stationery that still felt cohesive but also stands apart. Also, here’s another peek at those sweet drink stirrers. 
For night two, we brought the complimentary Aztec design back in with a different color story inspired by the original Otomi print. We also used touches throughout the other stationery used throughout the weekend such as the clues for the Scavenger Hunt.
At the ceremony, we had these lovely die cut fans created with the Otomi print to bring everything back around to Cait’s original art.
And, lastly for the wedding dinner, we added blind letterpress to the dinner menus with the Otomi pattern but then also created a custom monogram which was used on each guest’s dinner napkins. 
It was so fun to watch guests discover these surprises throughout the weekend and it all started with a single piece of custom watercolor.
