Mixing up your bridesmaids gowns can add wonderful depth to your event design. It can take a ho-hum color palette of pinks and grays and make it feel that much more sophisticated, developed and rich. This August we are designing what will become one of our favorite weddings yet and we have 22 bridesmaids to dress. That’s right…22. Overwhelming to say the least, but while the easiest thing to do would be to pick one gown and send the girls on the way, we’re sourcing, shopping and creating a collection of bohemian nightgown inspired dresses in a color story of grays, taupes, nudes and blushes. It’s going to be gorgeous and well worth the effort!
The trick to a collection of gowns that work well together without matching perfectly is don’t overthink it. So many brides worry that the fabric has to match exactly or the shades aren’t close enough in color. Stop that! Select a handful of gowns you love and let them inspire you. Also, as a side note, you almost ALWAYS have to get gowns from a variety of designers to make the look work out well. You want a variety of shades and textures and most designers only have one shade of “blush pink” every year. So go check out as many lines as you can and choose your favorites! If it’s too overwhelming for you, have your ladies choose their own after sharing your vision. To make sure no one strays too far off track, assign your most fashionable bridesmaid to take the lead in approving/declining any dress that’s brought to the table and above all, have fun!
